How to hack PSP Brite 3000 tutorial

Posted by admin as Others

This tutorial explains on how to hack your PSP 3000 (Brite) in a step by step procedure. This tutorial is based on my personal experience and I’m sure it will work for you as well.Let’s Go!

Step 1: Check if your firmware version is 5.03

Check your system software version is 5.03 by navigating into
Settings > System Settings > System information.

If your software version is 5.03 then skip the next step, else proceed Step 3.

Step 2: Update your firmware version to 5.03

Download the firmware version by clicking here.
Follow the steps from playstation.com in updating your firmware version by clicking here.

Note:If you update your firmware version above 5.03,it will make your PSP not hackable. And it will cannot be reverted back to older firmware version.

Step 3: Download and install chickHEN R2

Download chickHEN R2(requires firmware version 5.03) by clicking here.
Copy whole ChickHEN folder (which contains 4 gif files ChickHENa-d and slim.tiff) to your PICTURE folder.
Then copy the h.bin file into your root directory.Root directory is where you will see the PICTURE,MUSIC and VIDEO folders.
Restore your PSP’s Default settings in SYstem Settings > Restore Default Settings.
In your PSP, go to Photo > Memory Stick.
Don’t do anything.Allow the photos to be loaded and it should show some colors flash and it will restart itself.
If it does not restart and just turned off, go into PHOTO > Memory Stick again.
After it has restarted, check your sytem version. If it reads “5.03 ChickHEN R2″,then ChickHEN is successfully installed.

Step 4: Download and install Custom Firmware 5.03 GEN-B

Download Custom Firmware 5.03 GEN-B here.
Extract the 5.03 GEN-B files to your computer.
Copy the 5.03GEN-B folder (the extracted file) in your PSP (PSP > GAME).
Disconnect the PSP from the Computer.
Run the 5.03 GEN-B Updater in Game > Memory Stick
Follow the process in updating, last command will be to press X.PSP will reboot.
Check your System Information ,system software must be “5.03 GEN-B(Full)”.

–After these steps,do not let your PSP completely lost its battery power or perform complete shutdown.Standby Power down is ok.Complete shutdown means you push slide the on/off button longer than just a little slide to turn it off.If battery has been drained or your PSP performs complete shutdown, then you will perfom these steps again(except for step 1 and 2).If you will load the 5.03 GEN-B for another time (for example, your PSP battery has drained or has forced shutdown),hold the “L” button when running again the updater.

How to put downloaded games in your PSP

Create a folder named “ISO” in your PSP root directory.Root directory is where you will see the PICTURE, MUSIC and VIDEO folders.
Put your .iso or .cso in that folder. You can download PSP games from different websites.A quick search in Google will do you good.
In your PSP, go to GAME > Memory Stick.
Choose your game and ride on.

DISCLAIMER: I had made this simple tutorial based on my personal experience. If you had installed the wrong custom firmware on models that are still not hackable,it will result in a brick. This tutorial is only a guide and neither I,nor anyone else in the credits, will be responsible for your actions.

hi criselle, the CFW enabler will say its corrupted because I think you haven’t successfully installed Chickhen R2.
Restore you Default Settings. Go to Settings > System Settings > Restore Default Settings.
Repeat step 3(except for the downloading and copying of files,if you had done it before).
Always check your system version after this step so that it reads “5.03 ChickHEN R2″.
Then your ready to install CFW Enabler.

Happy PSP-ing!

Hello Silva,

Instead of copying the whole ChickHEN folder into your PICTURE folder, copy the files from the ChickHEN folder (4 gif files ChickHENa-d and slim.tiff) directly into the PICTURE folder,do not put it in the ChickHEN folder anymore.

Note:installing of ChickHEN normally takes me 2 times to successfully install it.

I have the exact same problem as silva205. i tried the UMD recommendations by admin to no avail. I was trying a 1gig memory stick, then tried to 2gig memory stick, but still no luck. it keeps loading the photos, but then shutting off, not restarting. does anyone have any other suggestions?

glyco

November 18th, 2009 at 2:37 pm

ok, this is weird, i know, but i finally got it to work. i followed all the above instructions, but what i did to get it to work was as soon as you load the photos off the memory stick, scroll down to the “slim” photo, and then i kept flipping back and forth from this photo to the photo directory. it seemed to work, i dunno. anyways, yay!

Hi, I have a PSP brite 3003. I installed ChickHen and then CFWEnabler 3.6 as per your tutorial (thank you), so the system is now at version 5.03 MHU. I put an ISO into a folder called ISO on the root menu. When I go into Game on the psp menu, then browse to the memory card, I can see the image of the game. I select it, a white psp screen with noise comes up, then the screen goes black, then back to the psp menu, and an error message - The game could not be started. (80020148). I have a UMD in the psp, and I’ve used the ’select’ menu to change UMD ISO mode to all the options listed, but to no avail. Any suggestions? I’ve tried 3 games, seems it happens with newer games I might actually want to play, (Ben 10 alien force and Little big planet), but then it played a little sudoku game, Zendoku..

Hello Dee,

In able to play newer games(tekken 6,etc) you must install Custom Firmware 5.03 GEN-B instead of CFWEnabler 3.60 .

Here’s what you will do:

1.Download Custom Firmware 5.03 GEN-B at http://uploading.com/files/4a16c5e6/5.03%2BGEN-B.zip/
2.Delete the current CFW Enabler 3.60 in your PSP (PSP > GAME) if it is still in it.
3.Extract the 5.03 GEN-B files to your computer.
4.Copy the 5.03GEN-B folder (the extracted file) in your PSP (PSP > GAME).
5.Disconnect the PSP from the Computer
6.Run the 5.03 GEN-B Updater in Game > Memory Stick
7.Follow the process in updating, last command will be to press X.PSP will reboot.
8.Check your System Information ,5.03 GEN-B(Full)
9.Try to see if the newer games is working now :)

Note: If you will load the 5.03 GEN-B for another time (for example, your PSP battery has drained or has forced shutdown),hold the “L” button when running again the updater,ok?

Hey, this all sounds great. I got my sister a psp for christmas, and it’s a 3000 with 5.02 fw. This seems pretty easy to follow, but I’m just wondering if this can play ISO and CSO files. I saw that ChickHEN is good for homebrew games, so I’m hoping that this tutorial is not only for homebrew. ^^

Sorry if this was answered somewhere, and I was blind… I’ll go and do a double check ^^

Thanks in advance!

Dona

December 11th, 2009 at 2:58 pm

Hahaha~~ I am blind! Seems like this can play ISO and CSO… okay… I’m going to try it, and I’ll let you know if I succeed ^^;

Thanks again…

Dona

December 12th, 2009 at 5:16 am

I’ve done everything that the tutorial says… Upgraded to 5.03, then copied the ChickHEN files to the psp, restored the psp, loaded ChickHEN successfully, and then installed GEN-B … but when I place any games on the psp (in GAME -> ISO) the game is always corrupted.

I’m trying this with newer games as well as older… but the result is still the same… it there a reason why it’s not working for me?

Thanks ^^

Dona

December 12th, 2009 at 5:20 am

Oh man… I need to stop doing this. I checked the tutorial again, and missed the clearly stated step that said I needed to put the ISO file in the root directory… Sorry for spamming so much ^^;;;

admin

December 12th, 2009 at 12:19 pm

Hello Dona,

Create a folder named “ISO” in your PSP root directory.Root directory is where you will see the PICTURE, MUSIC and VIDEO folders.
Put your .iso or .cso in that folder.

Dona

December 12th, 2009 at 6:19 pm

Thanks for all your help~~ I was able to put games onto my psp and run them perfectly~~!

I had some trouble earlier, as I shut down the psp in an attempt to run ChickHEN and GEN B again (so that I could teach my sister when I gave it to her) real quick. I just couldn’t get ChickHEN to run again, no matter how many times I tried! I just couldn’t figure it out.

But then I saw a video on Youtube, and the person in the video went into the ChickHEN images, and immediately scrolled down to the last image - the tiff. After letting all the images load, when it got to the tiff, it immediately flashed green and rebooted. I tried this method, and on my second try, it worked! I was sooooo pleased! This is such an easy method, and just when I thought I could not get ChickHEN to boot, I did it~

Anyways, just posting this to let you know, and hopefully help someone else who is having trouble booting up ChickHEN.

Dear admin,

I installed ChickHen R2 and then CFWEnabler 3.60 Successfully, so the system version is 5.03 MHU, also I put the .iso files in ISO folder and I can see them from GAME menu of psp, but when I select a game, after 5 seconds psp turns off and the software version reset to 5.03. I have tried it several times, but the response is the same.

I really appreciate your help.

admin

December 16th, 2009 at 11:42 am

Hello Chris,

It seems that you are trying to play newer games in PSP.Instead of CFW Enabler, you must install Custom Firmware 5.03 GEN-B.

Hi,

I tried 5.03 GEN-B and it was successful, Thank you!

But there is a few tips that I have encountered and perhaps help someone else:

For the first time (after I bought my PSP), I installed ChickHen R2 and 5.03 GEN-A successfully. There was no problem with playing games. After several days when I was playing, it hung and I had to turn off it.

After that, I was always installing ChickHen R2 successfully (the version was 5.03 Chickhen R2) but running the 5.03 GEN-A was leading to psp turn off. I formatted my memry stick several times, but the result was the same.

Then I decided to test CFW Enabler 3.60 (after a Format of Memory stick). This time everything was OK and as I mentioned in my previous post the system version was 5.03 MHU, but selecting a game was equal to psp turn off.

Also I tesed Chickhen mod2 and CFW Enabler 3.60. The result was nothing else.

At last I tried Chickhen mod2 and 5.03 GEN-B and this time I could run my games!

I have custom firmware gen 5.03-c finally installed on my psp 3000. I was wodering is there any way it will stay on there when I take my battery out or do a full power down? Or do I have to flash it everytime again like I’m doing now?

admin

December 24th, 2009 at 3:13 pm

Hello Chris,

You must flash gen and install Chicken R2 everytime you shut it down or take the battery out.Just put it in standby mode(sliding the on/off slider quickly, not holding it long to shut it down completely) and you will be fine.

Hey Kima,

Just be sure to buy a PSP 3000 (Brite) with system version 5.03 or below (5.02,5.01,5.0)and follow the instructions posted here on how to hack and download games to it.PSP Slim(2000) is way too old and doesn’t have many features as PSP Brite does(microphone, enhanced screen, etc.)Good luck on your purchase.

Hi! I have a psp3001 ofw 5.02, upgraded successfully to ofw 5.03. Dropped chickhena-d.gif and slim.tiff into picture folder on psp, and reset to factory default. I attempted to access pictures on psp, but only get a shutdown. I cannot get system to reboot into 5.03 HEN. I tried disabling UMD boot and cache without success. I tried scrolling through thumbs while thumbs were being loaded without success. I have everything on a 2gb SanDisk Memory Stick PRO Duo. What could I possibly be doing wrong? I am stumped.

Kindly look at some suggestions of our readers on how they boot the ChickHEN.I know this is somewhat the hardest part of the hack.

@Admin
Thanks! I was able to get ChickenHEN working, allowing me to install FW 5.03 GEN-B successfully. What I failed to do was place the 4 ChickenHEN files into its own folder inside the PSP Photo folder (PSP->PHOTO->CHICKENHEN->files). I also flipped back and forth between the last photo and the folder it belonged to, which caused the green screen. Thank you for all your help.

I am now having problems with playing a backup of Assassins Creed. I placed the ISO in a folder named ISO under ROOT. I can access the game on the PSP->GAME->MS->Assassins Creed. However, I get an error “The game could not be started. (80020321). I will try another ISO backup tomorrow.

Thanks again for all your help and everyone on here.

December 27th, 2009 at 5:10 pm

Your welcome John!

John

December 28th, 2009 at 2:14 am

@Admin
Ok, I know why I was getting the (80020321) error when I tried playing the games. You MUST have a UMD inserted. Error (80020321) is a device failure. Under this hack, you must have a UMD inserted — doesn’t matter which one, just as long as you have one in.

This has been such an invaluable blog. I appreciate what you are doing and all the input others have added.

hi admin!

i really appreciate this forum since it helps a lot! however i’m such a noob at PSP 3000’s method of hacking.
i have a PSP 3000 with OFW 5.03, chickHEN R2 (enabled), CFW enabler 3.60.
then i played newer games that according to some forumers said caused the PSP to shutdown therefore they have to reload chickHEN R2 again. well i successfully done that but when I run CFWE 3.60, it initializes, but after a while it shuts down instead of rebooting and doesn’t even open the program. do you think i’m missing something like holding/pressing any button while running CFWE?

secondly, if I want to change CFW to a GEN-B, can I do it directly like formatting my mem stick and replace it with the necessary files?
or is there another proper method?

this is kinda long. i just want to be specific with my problem so it is understandable!

thanks a lot and happy new year!

Hello adt,

Ask the salesperson if the OFW version is 5.03 or below,or you can check it by navigating into Settings > System Settings >System Information.
If the system software is 5.03 or below(5.02,5.01) then buy it and follow the hack in this tutorial.

How about installing Gen-B instead of Gen-C? Here’s the download link for it: http://uploading.com/files/4a16c5e6/5.03%2BGEN-B.zip/ .Delete first your Gen-C before putting Gen-B in your PSP.

Hi Admin,

Thanks for the tutorial. Chicken is too slow so I Google for an alternative and I found MHUSPEED v3. It works great! Mine is PSP 3004 just 1 attempt green light flashes in seconds.

Also works on 5.03 GEN-A\5.03 GEN-B\5.03 GEN-C.

Here’s the link to MHUspeed v3 Auto Installer: http://www.mediafire.com/?ddcmmmzwyeg

How to install:
- Connect PSP to PC via USB cable
- Run MHUSpeed_V3.exe then choose the drive letter of your Memory Stick.
- Click INSTALL
- Done!

Quick Hacking/Enabling:
- In your PSP go to Photo > Memory stick
- Wait for the flashing egg photo to appear on the mhuspeed3 folder.
- Once it appears, open mhuspeed3 and dont press anything.
- Wait for the Green light to flash.

Thats it! Hacked!

Just wanna share if you’re having problem with Chicken.

Thanks!

You can turn off your PSP but don’t put it in forced shutdown mode.Force shutdown mode is when you slide up your power button off and hold it too much.Standby/sleep mode is just when you just slide your power button and not hold it too much.

Hope you understand what I’m talking about.

You will know if you force shutdown your PSP when the “Sony Computer Entertainment” text appears when you turn on your PSP and your games are gone.

Sorry for the stupid question:
What will happen after doing the steps above correctly?
After that, where can I download great games for PSP 3000??
(I’m absolutely begginer with the PSP world)
Thank you

Ryan,

Syempre kung ano mas bago yun ang mas maganda dahil syempre maraming nadadagdag na features kapag may bagong lumabas ang item.PSP 3000 meron nang mic at meron na rin Skype na application na built-in.

Hello, what can i do if my psp version is higher than 5.03 ? How do i downgrade it ?

You cannot downgrade it to 5.03. Unfortunately, you have to wait for the new hack for versions above 5.03, which I don’t know when. :(

Hello Josh,

Personally, my PSP is a PSP 3002 with OFW 5.03. Follow the steps and you will be fine. If ever some download links in the tutorial are broken or missing, a quick Google search can help you with the file. Thanks!
